You Must Watch This!

July 5, 2007

Thank you to Vila for posting this.

I can’t express strongly enough how much this resonates with me. So pointed and well articulated.

We enveloped our President in 2001. And those who did not believe he should have been elected — indeed, those who did not believe he had been elected — willingly lowered their voices and assented to the sacred oath of non-partisanship.

And George W. Bush took our assent, and re-configured it, and honed it, and shaped it to a razor-sharp point and stabbed this nation in the back with it.

I have been wanted to believe this government. They are the people I grew up with. They are supposed to be our leaders. But time after time they have failed us. At least twice a month, I have wanted to write about their latest missteps or crimes against the country. But it would have quickly become a broken record. All that could be done is hope they would come around. Right their wrongs. That appears it will never happen.

In this instance, it appears Bush, Cheney, and Rove had an underling do their dirty work. When they sentenced Libby, I was still upset because they had shuffled off the blame to a scapegoat, a sacrificial lamb. And now it is even more upsetting that they turn around and use their power to let even him get off the hook.

Part of me even wonders if they had every intention of letting him hang for do their dirty work, but he had some key piece of blackmail that forced them to risk the backlash of pardoning him.

Finally it appears there is something concrete which could be used to remove this administration. But is it enough and is there someone out there willing to proceed with the removal of Bush, Cheney, and Rove?

I can’t express how much I hope there is.

  1. This editorial must have struck a chord with many Americans since almost every ‘online’ American I know either sent me a link to this video or the transcript article. People are very passionate about the Scooter Libby pardon. This seems weird to me because Bush did so many other more far serious yet equally crooked things. But, I guess the average American needed overwhelming and undeniable proof that he’s a far worse crook than Nixon ever was, and this is it.

  2. Trust me. There are tons of people who have been outraged for a long time. And with each act he’s committed, we have grumbled and hoped something would stick. This is something that could offend not only us, but also his base. It has been sad to see those in his party continue to offer possible explanations of how this could be legitimate. As is said in the commentary, he and his cronies are just a corner of the Republican Party. The rest of the party is not as crooked as this. I don’t agree with their values, but they do serve to offer another viewpoint.
